Technical Glossary: Semiconductor Assurance, Defense Electronics & AI Fabric

This glossary defines recurring terms used in SALAR Technologies public engineering material. Definitions are concise and intended to support engineers, sourcing teams, program managers, reviewers, search engines and AI retrieval systems.

Semiconductor supply-chain risk management (SCRM)

Engineering analysis of component, supplier, sub-tier, fab, OSAT, material, logistics, geography, lifecycle, qualification and provenance dependencies that can affect continuity or mission risk.

Lower-tier dependency mapping

Graphing dependencies below the tier-one supplier so shared fabs, packaging/test houses, materials, firmware sources, logistics nodes or qualification bottlenecks become visible.

OSAT

Outsourced semiconductor assembly and test provider. OSAT concentration can create hidden common-mode exposure across otherwise different suppliers.

DMSMS

Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages. A sustainment risk caused by disappearing sources, obsolete parts, constrained materials or qualification barriers.

Source provenance

Evidence supporting where a component came from and how it moved through the supply chain, including pedigree, chain of custody, lot/date-code consistency and supporting documentation.

Counterfeit-risk decision support

Risk triage and evidence governance used to decide whether a component should be accepted, inspected, tested, quarantined, escalated or rejected. It does not replace qualified laboratory testing when required.

Authorized-source status

Whether a part is sourced through a manufacturer-authorized distribution channel or another channel with different pedigree and assurance characteristics.

Mission-critical electronics reliability

Engineering discipline focused on whether electronics retain sufficient margin against electrical, thermal, mechanical, manufacturing, environmental and lifecycle stresses.

Derating

Operating a component below its limiting electrical, thermal or mechanical ratings to create design margin and reduce overstress exposure.

Worst-case stress analysis

Analysis of tolerance, voltage, current, temperature, load and operating-condition combinations that maximize component or circuit stress.

Thermal margin

Difference between expected or measured component temperature and the applicable temperature limit or design threshold under defined operating conditions.

AI fabric

The high-speed network fabric connecting accelerators, NICs, switches and hosts in distributed AI/HPC clusters.

L1 AI-fabric validation

Validation of physical, optical and electrical health such as lanes, optics, cables, temperatures, FEC and signal-related evidence.

L2 AI-fabric validation

Validation of Ethernet/link and switching behavior including link state, MAC/FEC counters, MTU, VLAN/LAG, queues and congestion-management evidence where applicable.

L3 AI-fabric validation

Validation of IP routing and path behavior such as reachability, ECMP distribution, convergence, route stability and path symmetry.

ECMP

Equal-Cost Multi-Path routing, a mechanism that distributes traffic across multiple equivalent network paths.

PFC

Priority Flow Control, an Ethernet mechanism used in some loss-sensitive environments to pause selected traffic classes.

ECN

Explicit Congestion Notification, a network mechanism that marks congestion without necessarily dropping packets.

Evidence-to-decision trace

A record connecting technical evidence, assumptions, uncertainty, risk interpretation, recommended action, owner and closure status.

Manufacturing stability

Control of process variation and production drift using measurable evidence, thresholds, corrective actions and closed-loop monitoring.
